How to Squeeze More Storage Space Out of Your Kitchen

Freestanding shelves are a great way to add some storage space to your kitchen.

When it comes to making a functional kitchen there are a million and one things you might want at your fingertips at any given time. And with limited space to work with, it can be tricky finding a place for everything. Still, you don’t have to shell out the big bucks to get a kitchen that’s beautifully organized and has lots of space to work with. Here are a few ideas and tips for getting the most out of your kitchen space.

Freestanding Shelves – Shelves don’t have to just be for reading materials. Installing one in your kitchen will give you a great place for keeping odds and ends. You can stack a freestanding shelf high with cookbooks, spices, or even dishes to free up precious cabinet space.

Hanging Baskets – Baskets are incredibly helpful for organizing kitchen utensils, fresh produce, and cleaning supplies. Placing a basket above a sink with a metal rod or adhesive hooks will give you easy access to your cleaning essentials. Wire designs look especially trendy and come with the added benefit of helping wet dishes and sponges dry quicker.

Floating Shelves – If you have some extra wall space but not enough room for more cabinetry, a pair of floating shelves might do the trick. You can even install hooks beneath a bottom shelf to hang coffee mugs, utensils, or hand towels from.

Swivel Stools – Swivel stools are often overlooked due to their immobility, but they can save you a ton of floor space. They also just flat out look cool and are very practical. The kids will love them!

Hide Clutter Behind Closed Doors – The kitchen can be very chaotic. Hiding some of it away behind closed doors is a great way to reduce clutter. Attach hanging racks to the back of the door for added pantry space. Pull-out willow baskets are also great for fruits and vegetables.

Rolling Cabinets – People often overlook the possibility of rolling cabinets when doing a kitchen remodeling. A rolling cabinet unit is a great way to get some extra storage space for things you only sometimes need. You can roll it in and out of the kitchen at your own convenience.
